ENG 1020 RJA #12

RJA 12A: Progress Report
What I have so far:
-Research question/beginnings of a thesis
-Sources that include journals/articles, websites and references to text
- A very rough introduction
-A very rough outline
I think I picked the worst topic out of all my braistorms, and I am SO frustrated with it...I'm still trying to figure out exactly where I want to go with it.

What I need to get :
-A more clear distinct outline, thesis introduction. I need to figure out exactly where I want to go with my paper/argument.
-More references from text.
-A more fluid and sturdy intro.
-More sources to support the argument.

RJA 12B: Presentation Plan
In my presentation, I plan to include a timeline of events. I think that my main argument will be if the bombing of Pearl Harbor could have been prevented, and possibly include events since then that also could have been prevented, as this is the best I can think of to write my paper. I want to go prior to the bombing of Pearl Harbor and look at the relationship between the US and Japan, and look at why the events took place.

RJA #11

RJA #11 A: (it's vague but it's a start)
World War II is a topic discussed in various places. It is a war that still has survivors to tell the stories, and a war some feel as though they can somewhat relate to. It has grabbed the attention of so many, making the world as we know it a better place to be. In this paper, it will be discussed why Japan attacked the United States, how the Alli connections worked, the economy before and after the war, and the benefit of the war as a whole. Resources used to provide this information will consist of information received from books, articles and websites, and people who lived it.

RJA #11 B:
I would like to include visual aids such as a map, graphs supporting the economic downfall/growth before and after the war, somehow I want to talk about genocide and maybe include pictures/stories of how people were treated, the resources we used (planes, weapons etc.) and pictures my Grandpa has from his tour in Europe like his "civilian photo" in case he ever got stuck anywhere and had to pretend that he was a native.

ENG 1020 RJA #10

RJA #10: Thesis Statement
-What provoked the Germans to get involved in World War 2?
-The Germans saw America weak and thought it would be a good time to take over.
-The Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, and seeing America weak, Germany decided to get involved and thought that they could take over. The big action came when America and Germany fought for the right treatment of Jews and to get rid of the kinds of government they were running.

In the 1940's, Worls War 2 began with the bombing of Pearl Harbor from Japan. Germany saw America as weak in this time, and decided to attack and try to take over. The bulk of the war was when America decided to fight back, and end the styles of government they were running and to end the mistreatment of the Jewish among other people.

Eng 1020 RJA #7

RJA #7a: Internet Research Tools–
Personally, before this class I simply used google and text books from the library to find what I needed. I like google because it brings up so many different options, however sometimes the search is completely not what I wanted and I have to go back to more pages and revamp my search. This class has helped me expand so much when it comes to finding legit information in so many places. I really like my delicious account because sometimes when I try to go back to find the original site, it's not there. I can also put tags on my bookmarks that help me to remember exactly what the article was talking about.

RJA #7b: Internet Research Tool Test–
I searched incywincy.com. I searched for the keywords Japanese Attack on Pearl Harbor, I did my search on Ocotber 5th, 2009. There were 10,525 hits on this topic alone. The relevance of my hits was pretty much a 4 or 5, they were very informative.

RJA #7c: Field Research Plan–
For my field research, I am goiong to interview my Grandpa who just returned from his WW2 reunion and his friend who is a Halocaust survivor. I plan to do this within the next two weeks with my grandpa, as for his friend, I have yet to set up the interview. I want to ask them what it felt like to know that America was attacked, and how he felt about being drafted. I also want to ask him what civillian life was like in Europe.

ENG 1020 RJA #5

RJA #5A: Reference Articles
Name(s) of author(s) of the article
Title of the article
Title of reference work
Place of publication (include state if needed)
Name of publisher
Date of publication
Page number(

I looked into citizendium.com, searched WW2 and got useful information, but it was a draft article and not to be cited...dang it! It helped me get a better idea of what went on.

Datapedia also posed an issue- I searched for World War 2, Pearl Harbor, Japan attacks US and nothing came up.

On infoplease.com, I found a section that posted the bibliography and it had many, many authors and titles that also had information about WW2 and this was the most information about the actual article author and publisher...
"War Comes to the United States"
The Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia, 6th ed. Copyright © 2007, Columbia University Press.

RJA #5B: Books
As I said earlier, the infoplease.com website gave me many options for books to look in, even one written by Dwight D. Eisenhower. I plan to go to my local library and research these titles this week-
Dwight D. Eisenhower, Crusade in Europe (1948, repr. 1951); Omar H. Bradley, A Soldier's Story (1951, repr. 1970); Winston S. Churchill, The Second World War (6 vol., 1948–54); Harry S. Truman, Memoirs (2 vol., 1955–6); Field Marshal Montgomery, Memoirs (1958); Charles de Gaulle, Complete War Memoirs (1964, repr. 1967); Douglas MacArthur, Reminiscences (1964); Albert Speer, Inside the Third Reich (1970).

I accessed this website one September 21, 2009.
